Internet Business Plan - Research
If you thought your high school or college days meant the end of homework then you were sadly mistaken, especially if you want to make an effective business proposal for the internet! Doing your homework on your certain product niche and competitors will help you narrow down how you can better serve your clients. If you don’t do your homework you will risk being outdone by your competition, which is wiling to take the extra step and beat you out in price, quality and quantity! Don’t be left behind, research what you are doing until you have learned to the full extent what you need to do!
What does research mean when it comes to small business considerations? Here are some basic research tricks that you can do to help you in a smarter fashion:
Identify those who are in a similar niche as yours (as far as products)
Research those product retailers who are still within your range of products, even if not in your particular niche or specialty
Come up with a detailed plan
When you research better you will perform better and this tides over to your business performance as well as your personal satisfaction. Let’s look at the above steps in a little more detail:
Your Business Competitors
1. Research your retail competitors! If you overlook this step then you have already made one of the most crucial mistakes you can possibly make in a business standpoint. Your competitors will have a lot to do with the way you run your business so if you ignore them completely you won’t be able to justify the prices you charge or the advertisements you run. Internet marketing can only be done efficiently if you work off the marketing schemes of those you are sharing the market with!
What does researching your poker competitors consist of?
Step One, Figuring out who they are: This step will be an on going process for the entire duration of your business because your competition will always be adjusting and forever changing. Sure, there will be some competitors that you may run side by side with for years to come but there will always be those ‘rookie’ small businesses that are new on the scene and those businesses that drop out of the ‘race.’ A great way to narrow down who your competitors are is to use an internet search engine. Now remember, you’re not looking for just anyone who sells your products because this approach is far too broad, you’re looking for a business that specifically markets toward your specialty niche.
If you were to keep track of all those businesses on the internet that sell related products you may have quite the extended list, so keep it niche oriented!
If you are one of the small business/ product businesses with a local store as well as an internet store this is a good time to include those local competitors near you. Whether there are several stores in your area or just one main competitor it is wise to pinpoint them and at least understand that they are there and have the potential to steal your customers.
Step Two, Watching their advertisements: Once you find your basic competitors you should form a list. A great way to do this is to use either a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, another computer based program or a loose leaf notebook. This is what you’re going to use to keep track of how your competitors advertise and market toward their segments.
What are you going to keep in your list? You want to keep your notes and your observations. This list should be updated pretty consistently because your business competitors marketing plans will be evolving, not staying the same. Remember, just because a competitor of yours is selling similar products doesn’t mean they are advertising in the same way or toward the same demographics. In fact, if you are just getting into the business you should look to avoid their marketing schemes and concentrate on bringing an innovative idea to the e-commerce marketplace. By doing something different and apart from other sellers you can effectively hit upon a new hotspot for buyers. Buyers like innovative strategies and they like difference!
